Beta Club - 20 Years

beta-club.wmv

Beta Club, an organization that recognizes academic achievement, promotes character, develops leadership skills, and encourages service involvement of students in grades 5 through 12, has been a part of our school for 20 years. Last month students were inducted into Beta Club. Part of the induction program included this video featuring the many faces of our Beta Club students throughout our 20 year history. Watching this video, and remembering when they were walking the halls of Northside, makes me wonder what these students are doing now. I wonder what they chose to do with their lives. How many became college graduates? How many serve our country everyday? How many are engineers, teachers, business owners? How are married and have children who will soon walk the halls of Northside? Were you inducted into the Beta Club? What do you think you’ll be doing in 2o years?

Talented Students

Are you a fan of American Idol? What about Dancing With The Stars or Who’s Got Talent? These televison shows are very popular with Americans of all ages. Each week viewers are in awe of the amazing talents of the singers, dancers, jugglers, and magicians. Each week viewers submit their opinions of the various talents by voting who should stay and who should leave. It isn’t easy to stand before a crowd and perform. But nothing compares to live entertainment.

Last week, Northside held its annual talent show. We had students who sang, danced, cheered, tumbled, played various instruments, and skated. There were single acts as well as group acts. Each and every student shared with us their talents and shined on the stage. The audience was amazed with the talent and performance of our students. Thank you, Northside students for an enjoyable evening.

The Reflector

Northside Middle School has been around for 50 years. Off and on throughout the years, the students have published a school newspaper called The Reflector. In the early days of Northside, students used typewriters to write their stories and literally cut and paste the stories onto paper so that the newspaper could be copied and distributed.  Today, technology has allowed the students to publish a newspaper for the whole world to see. Isn’t technology great?

We are so fortunate to have a parent volunteer, Dr. Robert Stevenson, a Lander University Mass Communications professor,  and Mrs. Lynn Waldron, a Northside sixth grade teacher,  who are willing to help our students in publishing a monthly newspaper. Take a peek and tell us what you think about their first issue for the 2007-2008 school year.

October Activities

It has been a very busy month here at Northside. The nine weeks period is over and teachers have been holding conferences with parents on the progress of students. We are hearing wonderful things about our students. This month has also shown us how wonderful our students and parents are with raising money for our school and for the community through the PTO cookie dough sales, United Way spirit links sales and Mr. Knight and Miss Northside. Additionally, there have been a variety of fun activities held this month: football and volleyball games, step team, dance team, and cheerleader practices, the book fair in the media center, spirit week, and student clubs. What have you participated in this month? Which activity did you enjoy participating in?

Teen Read Week Makes the Headlines

There are several activities taking place at Northside in the coming weeks. Besides Teen Read Week, students will be raising funds for United Way with the Miss Northside and Mr. Knight contest and the USC/Clemson penny wars.  The week of October 22 - 25, is Spirit Week ending with a pep rally. Be listening for the different theme days during that week. The PTO is also sponsoring a fall dance for our students on Oct. 19. Does this sound like fun? What are you looking forward to? What are some other activites you would like to see at Northside?
